Go All In – The 2026 Year of Reading (goallin.org.uk) – is a Department of Education initiative supported by sponsors and partner organisations. Its aim is to reconnect reading with everyday culture. It is the perfect time for schools to boost reading for pleasure and to evaluate their own library provision.

We all know that regular reading has so many benefits, but fewer and fewer young people and adults are making time for it. Research conducted by the National Literacy Trust, shows that roughly just 1 in 5 children aged 8-18 said that they read something in their daily free time.

It’s important, though, that we shouldn’t ignore the fact that we’re living in an incredible time for books – with a greater variety of stories and voices than ever for children to experience.  This year, let’s make sure we celebrate all of the wonderful opportunities (like libraries!) available for people to engage with books and reading.

Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service aims to promote the importance of reading for pleasure and aid schools in any way they can. the Year of Reading aims to reconnect all of us to joys of reading for pleasure, and we’ll jump onboard this campaign and “Go All In” by providing monthly updates with tips for building a positive reading culture in your school.
