We are delighted to announce that Serena Patel, author of the Anisha, Accidental Detective books, will be our headline act for World Book Day 2023, although this year we are celebrating it on Friday 3rd March 2023 to allow schools to hold their own events and activities on World Book Day itself.
Serena will be at the Genesis Cinema for two events – 10.30am to 11.30am and 1.30pm to 2.30pm and will sign copies of her books after each event.
Serena’s first book was published in 2020 and now has seven books to her name. She is no stranger to Tower Hamlets, having visited with the Barnes Children’s Festival last year. Based in Birmingham, she is also a part-time law firm training co-ordinator and mother of two. She was shortlisted for the Asian Writer Short Story Prize in 2017 and was a finalist in the Undiscovered Voices Anthology in 2018. Anisha, Accidental Detective made the Tower Hamlets Book Award shortlist in 2020, won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award for Fiction 2020 as well as the Crimefest Award for Children’s Crime Fiction that same year. Her books feature regularly on our “Must Read” posters.
Her talk is suitable for KS2 and KS3.
For schools who subscribe to the Schools Library Service, this event is £3 per pupil and £5 per pupil for all other schools.
Please book by 19th February (end of half term) by sending an email, stating morning or afternoon (or “don’t mind”), and the number and year group/s of the children you wish to bring to Gillian.harris@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
