For over thirty years, Tower Hamlets Schools Library Services has been providing schools in London and the south east with teaching and learning resources, including books, artefacts, costumes and school librarians! Our lending service is consistently rated as good or excellent by over 98% of users.

Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service has a collection of over 170,000 books, big books, posters, artefacts, costumes and more. You can visit us to choose your own resources or use our request service. We deliver to and collect from schools at any time during the term.

Whether you need books and teaching resources for one classroom or every classroom, or you want to have a school library to wow pupils, parents and OFSTED, we can help at the best price for you.

Members of staff in subscribing schools can borrow up to 70 resources at any one time, for a term or more.  The subscription also includes a whole-school ticket for 400 books that can be used to support reading programmes or supplement the school library.

Making use of our extensive range of resources can

  • Raise standards and enrich the delivery of the curriculum
  • Promote a love of reading
  • Save teachers’ time!

Why you should borrow from us instead of buying your own books

Value for money

For an average two-form entry primary school, the equivalent cost of a year’s whole-school subscription would buy you approximately 1 bay of new books for your school from a bookshop. That’s just :

They’ll suffer wear and tear and may quickly go out-of-date – either because information is updated or your school curriculum changes.

The same amount spent on a whole-school subscription from us (where every teacher is able to borrow) will bring your school :

Over 6 times as many books! We’re constantly updating and evolving our collection, and you get to change borrowed books as often as you like, so the resources in your classroom always keeps up with your curriculum and the needs of new pupils.

You also get:

  • Knowledgeable and experienced librarians to select the books for you, saving you valuable time
  • Costumes
  • Artefacts
  • Access to specialist collections including dual-language resources
  • No late fees for books
  • Expert help with your school library
  • Events and competitions
  • FREE delivery and collection
  • FREE or reduced price access to Global Learning London projects
